With small laptops and netbooks the choices are a little more limited than on a ‘normal’ laptop. The best spec if your budget allows, is the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor with 2GB RAM memory minimum. Basically we are looking at Processor and Random Access Memory as the two ways to filter the specification. We could use other components in our decision to get a good spec, but these really determine how much punch your small laptop can pack.
The Sempron processor and Celeron processor are always going to be slower than the AMD Athlon, Turion, or Intel Pentium Core 2 Duo. (Replacing the Pentium 4, Pentium D, Pentium M).
In terms of RAM, the more the better. If you enjoy fast loading windows, and multi task with your windows often, then 2GB should be cool. The more programs you have running in the background (MSN Live Messenger, Itunes, Internet Explorer etc) the more memory it will eat up, leaving you less for the task-to-task functionality of your PC.
If you can get anything around and 4GB, then your machine is gonna be rapido. The minimum memory nowadays in June 2009 for a small laptop or notebook computer would have to be 1GB, though depending on what you are using it for, ie for very basic tasks like checking email, or surfing the web occasionally, or writing a quick correspondence, then even 512MB should be sufficient.
