The multi-award winning Asus EEE PC 1215N small laptop represents the ideal balance between a laptop and netbook.
As such the internal hardware components are equivalent to those inside a regular laptop, while mainating a degree of portability with its lightness and 12.1 inch WXGA Screen
Slightly pricier than a normal 10.1″ netbook, like the Samsung NC110 and the Toshiba NB505 lets have a look where you are spending the extra money:
- Processor
- Operating System
- RAM Memory
- 12.1″ Screen
The Processor Chip is the higher end D525 Intel Atom, which you could say is the equivalent to the Nvidia Tegra 2 in terms of power.
The Hard Drive is 250GB, PLUS Asus also offer free 1 year complimentary Cloud Space of 500GB. They can offer this because, If you become a regular storage user, then close to the year end, you would probably have to renew and pay, because your data will need storing somewhere anyway.
ASUS 1215N-PU27-SL 12.1-Inch Netbook (Silver)
If you dont use it, Asus havent lost out on much by introducing the offer.
The Operating system is Home Premium Starter, not a massive step up from Home Standard unless you are continuously taking your netbook to work, and plugging into the Network their.
The 2GB DDR3 Memory as standard is a welcome boost. Far too many small laptops and netbooks are being supplied with a standard 1GB, without room to expand. At 2GB the memory is sufficient for pretty much the life of the machine.
Finally the Glare-type 12.1″ screen maxes at 1366 x 768 16:9 resolution on a LED-bright Glare-type screen making the viewing experience of the NVIDIA ION Graphics chipset a better combination than many.
You get both HDMI and VGA connection as part of the interface set. Two USB 3.0 and a handy 1 USB which works as a charger, EVEN if the device is turned off. USB 3.0 enables data transfer at 10 times the speed of USB 2.0, so thats 4GB a second in theory !!
NB. This option is valid from October 2011, so if you purchase an older version it will only have 3 times USB 2.0 -without 3.0 capability and without charger USB.
Upto 7 hours battery is not bad considering the higher spec, though a drawback is the rather tame 0.3MP camera which works ok for video conferencing and it seems thats its main use. Lets look at the full specs;
