If you are a graphic designer, or a video editor or have a large collection of music and videos stored on your small laptop, then a big hard drive is a worthwhile investment
If you are like most people who don’t fit into any of the above categories then why do you need a large hard drive? Most people will only use 20% of there hard drive capacity and by the time they would have filled the whole hard, the PC or small laptop would probably be ready for the computer antique fair.
For basic surfing the web and basic emailing and word processing, then EVEN a 20GB Hard Drive would be sufficient for most people. In this instance, The Windows Installation takes about 3GB of space, so you have 17GB left for data!!. To put this in perspective, your 20GB drive, after Windows has taken its space will STILL allow you to store around a whopping 3,500 Mp3s or music files.
Basically a big hard drive is a marketing tool, mainly because computers come pretty much specced with similar components. Have a read of the posts and see how many contain the Intel Atom chip at 1.6 or 1.7Ghz- not easy for marketeres to differentiate there product by processor, and so the Hard drive is a quantitive measure with many increments (40GB, 60GB, 80GB, 120GB, 160GB, 250GB, 300GB etc.) and an ideal method to promote different priced laptop notebooks.
