Loading ...The MSI Whitebook MS 1058 netbook is a barebones laptop, though having looked at the specification below, its hardly what you would call slim pickings. It is a barebones laptop in that you have to choose a Hard Disk drive, a processor and the memory type and size.
If I was to spec this out, I would go for the AMD Mobile Turion 64 X2 Dual Core (about half the price of Intel Core 2 Duos), a 80GB Hard Disk Drive, and the maximum memory, 2GB. Fleshed out and this barebones offering becomes quite a meaty proposition!(im getting hungry now…ed)
The only negative point about barebones systems are that once you have purchased and fitted the parts to your mini laptop, you may find you have spent more money than an equivalent specced
fully built small laptop. The obvious plus point is that you can purchase cheaper components, a single core processor, and smaller memory and hard drive, and therefore save some money this way.
Also the built in, integrated Super multi DVD RAM drive is an excellent and rare feature on most small laptops with a 12.1” screen. Together with all the multimedia enhancements, except disappointingly no webcam, and the MS 1058 Whitebook is a pretty decent performer and one I would recommend to system builders and resellers. However, if you are a laptop newbie, then run a mile from ANY barebones laptop portable computer.
