With so many name for these computers, small laptops ..er.. netbooks, mini laptops……. whatever, it can be a bit confusing.
A computer or PC is general term for all though normally its any machine that is not on the move.
A desktop are those base units that sit on your desk, though ones that sit under your table on the floor, right next to the bookcase with a pile of clothes on top, are also desktops rather than floortops, though some differentiate them by calling them towers. Towers are also vertical base units while horizontal base units are desktops.
A laptop is anything that fits on your lap, though for proper cooling of you internal components a flat and stable surface is better!
A netbook is a laptop with typically a 7″-11″ screen and is ideal for surfing the web and collecting email and quick and keyboard non-intensive tasks.
A notebook is a laptop with a smaller screen making it about the size of a …er.. notebook.
A UMPC is an ultra mobile portable computer, about double the size of a mobile phone.
A portable device is anything you can carry in one hand. A normal sized laptop or desktop would not fit into this category.
A mini laptop is err anything that is a smaller laptop, smaller than a big laptop, but not quite a tiny laptop?
A tablet is what you take after a stressful day at work. It’s also a computer with a stylus pen allowing you write and draw on screen.
