Normally some piece of software that comes with the machine you ordered. Eg Windows, Ubuntu, PowerDVD and therefore meaning you dont have to pay additional licencing fees, if you have to wipe your laptop and start again.

Partition

A section of your hard drive thats been separated from the rest. Most modern pcs and laptops have a recovery partition, a Windows/Linux operating system partition and a data partition. Others have all the three on just the one partition. With partition software you can choose number and sizes of the sections.

Also the CPU or Central Processing Unit. This is the main brains behind your machine. Its what drives all the squillion things you might be asking your computer to do at any one time. There are two main suppliers of processor, Intel and AMD. There are others, but these two have the main share of the computer and laptop market.
