RAM -Random Access Memory

Usually the most upgradable thing in your laptop or portable device. Usually 1GB is a good amount of memory for running Windows XP and 2GB for Windows Vista, though there are many more variables to consider so this is a rough guide only. The more the computer memory, the more the pc will be able to cope with more windows open at once. So your web surfing, your media player and programs will operate more smoothly. Your antivirus and other secuity software will take fair amounts of memory so you need to compensate for that.  Its always worth upgrading the memory on a machine, as soon as you get it, so you  get the maximum benefit during the lifetime of the machine.
