Sony Vaio TT21MN small laptop

The Product

sony vaio tt21mn netbookThe Sony Vaio TT21 MN is a portable, ultra sleek product from the house of Sony, one of the leading manufacturers of electronics, video, communications, video game consoles, and information technology products for the consumer and professional markets.

With a 11.1″ WXGA TFT Active Matrix display, pictures are crisp as any sub sized notebooks, but the real difference with the TT21 MN is with the design and sophisticated profile. The small dimensions ensure easy portability and energy saving to the battery enhancements at run time.  A netbook with integrated dual layer DVD drive is its standout feature,  but it can be a strain on the eyes to read text, especially at high resolution.

This small laptop is projected as an ultimate mobile office with a sturdy carbon fibre design to withstand long hours of usage on the move.  Carbon fibre is a lightweight but rigid material that is almost 30% lighter and 200% stronger than conventional laptop plastics.

Design and Display

An extremely sleek super portable computer at a meagre 1.3 kg, this Sony netbook is one of the few most lightweight of all portable machines, ensuring great mobility and functions like a virtual computing office for businessmen and time conscious people who like to take care of their work even while being away from their desks.

The ergonomically designed keyboard and the placement of keys which rise vertically from a beautifully carved flat surface gives it a sophisticated look, yet looks easy to operate. There is no virtually no lateral movement because the center of each key has an indentation that ensures that every stroke is precisely placed. There is also no margin for error while typing as optimum spacing has been provided between keys to ensure comfort even when typing for long periods.

The gold colored casing is a nice segway from the standard black and blue laptops, though more manufacturers are increasing chassis colors, like Dell with the new Mini 10, and the Samsung Go N310 in Sunset Orange.

Features

The Intel Core 2 Duo inside the Sony Vaio netbook is a speedy processor without too much power consumption. An amplified SSE Unit and an Arithmetial Logical Unit (ALU) have been provided to enhance the Core Duo design. Although identical to those of the desktop processors, the Core 2 Duo notebook processors work with lower voltages and lower Frontside bus clocks. The front side bus determines the size and speed of the carrier of information from the CPU to the mainboard of the computer itself.

An Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD and GS45 chipset are at the lower end of offering for graphic cards for users who require this small laptop to play games, as the resolution is mediocre. The integrated video processor can decode HD videos for a fluent Blu-Ray experience even with slow processors.

Software

The TT21MN comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium

Battery

With a virtually hassle free 9-hour battery computing experience, the Sony Vaio TT netbook ensures all day computing on a single charge

Performance

The Sony Vaio TT performs very well on all parameters raking in high marks for mobility, design and enviromentally speaking, an equal percentile for staying well within emission standards. The range of connectors including TV-OUT and the integrated Dual layer DVD drive, together with Sony styling means this isnt a netbook that has an attractive price.  Having said that, the conisseur of attractive gadgtes will find a neat, compact and highly efficient performance packer.
